Chocolate is not just any flavor to me, it is the flavor I think of when I want to have western desserts. It is so maybe because I am a picky eater or could be because we( born in early 2000’s) had been exposed to mainly two flavors, i.e. vanilla and chocolate for cakes, ice-creams, etc. I tried developing my palette for fruit-based desserts as well as other flavors like peanut-butter, red-velvet, etc. But the result remained the same and here I am to share with you, my Chocolate Mania story🤤
So, like most Indian kids my introduction to chocolate was through ‘chocolates’, ice-cream and cakes. But as I grew, there were so many things using chocolate: waffles, brownies, pancakes, hot chocolate, shakes, cheesecakes, fudge, macaroons and so much more, being no end to this list. I , first started baking in my 10th standard where my friend and I baked Oreo based Choco-lava cake. Then we tried cookies 🍪 and oh boy, that was a disaster as it was nothing but a rock full of butter.
But, then I slowly again started baking cookies and brownies. In lockdown, my cravings for chocolate could not be satisfied, since restaurants were shut. So I began making chocolate ice-cream, hot chocolate, Choco-lava cake, brownies, Nutella cookies, Churros with Nutella and I also devoured pancakes and chocolate cakes 🎂 that my Bhabhi used to make. So this International Chocolate Day, I would like to share my most favourite hot beverage recipe, ‘HOT CHOCOLATE’.
Hot Chocolate is that drink for me that warms my heart and soul. It was my New Year Celebration Buddy, the sweet elf to my Santa, umbrella in the rains☔ and elixir of success. So this drink holds a very important place in my Maniac story💖. So below is the recipe of a perfect Hot Chocolate.
Ingredients required (for 1 serving)
- a glass of milk
- 1 tbsp corn flour
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2-3 tbsp sugar
- 75-100 gm of chopped dark compound chocolate
Procedure
- Boil the milk.
- In a bowl mix corn flour and cocoa powder and make a paste or slurry like consistency by adding 3-4 tbsp of boiled milk.
- Pour the mixture back into the milk and stir it continuously so that no lumps are formed.
- When, the milk begins to thicken due to corn flour, add in the chopped chocolate pieces into the milk.
- Stir it continuously on a low flame so that the chocolate does not sticks to the bottom of the vessel and melts properly.
- Add in the sugar depending upon your sweet tooth. When you feel the hot chocolate is thick enough, switch off the stove and pour it in a cup, mug or glass whatever you prefer.
- You may serve it with marshmallows on the top or could even top it up with some whipped cream. If you like a slight bitter taste you can even top it with a pinch of cocoa powder.
I hope you too find solace as well as happiness😇 while holding your cup of hot chocolate. Also please do share your chocolate mania this International Chocolate Day.
